Homework ... Who Am I?

I'm spending part of this weekend working on an assignment for my group and it's due on Monday.  The task involves coming up with a description of who I am, focusing on the positives of course.  Since one of my issues is self esteem and not loving or accepting myself it's going to be tough for me to put into words, but I figured here might be a good place to do so.  Hopefully readers of this blog will respond and I can get some input or feedback on things I may have not included, or even just affirming that what I list is accurate.  Yes, I know this is very self centered and narcissistic, but under these circumstances I suppose it's a necessary evil.  I thought at first that I'd just do this on paper, but realized that by doing it here I might be able to compare and contrast how I view myself versus how others see me.  Taking the time to comment on this posting would be greatly appreciated!  I kind of feel like this exercise comes across as me fishing for compliments, but I'm trying to take it for what it is, part of my healing process.  I think it would be easier to utilize the bullet list format rather than trying to fit everything into a narrative so it's more readable, so forgive me if it doesn't translate well on the finished page.

So let's get started ... Who am I and what is good about me?  Well, I'd like to think I am:

  • A loving and sincere person
  • Caring
  • Artistic
  • Creative
  • A person with integrity
  • Articulate and well spoken
  • Talented
  • Educated
  • Gentle and kind
  • A big teddy bear
  • A good writer
  • Somewhat of a renaissance man
  • Spiritual ... and still a work in progress
  • A Christian
  • A person who connects well with others
  • A lover of good food ... and even some not so good food!
  • Someone who loves parades and pageantry
  • A gay man
  • Handsome ... though I don't always recognize that myself
  • A funny and jovial person who has a great sense of humor
  • Computer and internet savvy and comfortable with technology
  • Wise beyond my years while still sometimes being a kid at heart
  • A person with a lot to offer ... even when I'm still figuring it all out
  • Blessed to have such great friends and family
  • A lover of both college and pro football
  • Someone who has very eclectic and well rounded tastes in music and movies
  • Knowledgeable and aware of current events
  • A news and political junkie
  • An avid follower of red carpet fashion
  • A great guy overall

OK, now is the time for you to let me know how I did and how accurate you think I am.  Are any of these attributes I have self-identified surprising?  Do you think any of them are incorrect?  Is there anything you'd add to the list that maybe I don't recognize or see in myself?  I am learning that self awareness, acceptance and affirmation is an important part of beginning to love myself and the person I am so that I can celebrate those aspects or strengths and use them to counteract and overcome the negatives, of which I am the first to admit are many.  Even though this isn't a graded assignment, I still want to do well and get the most out of it for myself.  Validation never hurts so I sincerely hope that at least some of the people who follow and read this will chime in and let me know what they think!

  1. I've only known you for a little bit but I want to affirm that EVERYTHING you listed is accurate. You are such an asset in IOP and I see you put a lot of effort into your assignment. You are an amazing person and my hope for you is to recognize and feel how awesome you are. Julie
