I spent a lot of time on yesterday's posting and frankly it drained me, so today I thought I'd keep things light and short. My current phone has lasted me many years so I haven't felt the need to upgrade really. Over the past year, however, it became obvious that I needed to do something. It was starting to drop calls randomly and the memory became inadequate to hold any apps at all without it crashing on me. I couldn't even keep Facebook on it because the internal memory wouldn't support it. So I pulled the trigger on a new phone, the LG G4. No, it's not the latest and greatest version available and it's certainly not the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 which retails for a mere $900, but it's a huge step up from what I have been dealing with. It has 32gb internal storage and is expandable up to 2 terabytes so I can load it up with all the apps I can imagine. It's got a quad-core processor so it's fast as well. I got a great Black Friday deal on it through Amazon and it arrived on Monday. The only hiccup so far is that I thought I could simply switch SIM cards from my old phone to this one but I found out that's not possible. So I had to order a new SIM card which doesn't arrive until Friday. I guess it's a lesson in patience for me. Of course I want instant gratification but will just have to wait until the SIM arrives in a day or so. I've already connected it to my Wifi so I could configure the setup and download all the apps I wanted so basically the only thing it won't do yet is make and receive calls and texts. I guess I can hold out the couple more days it will take for the SIM card to get here. New tech is so fun to play with. It's like that shiny new toy you unwrap on Christmas morning and can't wait to explore all the bells and whistles. It's funny how we've grown so dependent on cell phones to the point that we feel like we just can't live without them. I'm old enough to remember when there was no such thing. Land lines were all that was available and in the more rural areas we still had party lines, for those who remember what those were. Pay phones were the only option if you were out and about anywhere. I recall being able to tap out the number to avoid putting coins in the phone, but that was when pulse dialing was all the rage. Now I've grown so dependent on my cell phone that I feel naked and vulnerable without it. What would I do if I got stranded somewhere and needed to call someone? Cell phones have certainly made the leap from being a luxury to becoming a necessity. Does anyone still have land lines anymore? I haven't had one for probably more than a decade. Anyway, hopefully by Friday my new friend and sidekick will be fully functional. Does anyone else out there get as excited as I do about a new phone? Are you an Android or iPhone person? Or are you a person who doesn't care much either way as long as it works? I'm definitely and Android person since I'm such a Google whore, but I hear the iPhone is something to behold and the people who use them absolutely love them. Maybe someday I'll try one and see what it's like. For now, I'm just thrilled with the one I got and can't wait to put it to good use!
